Becoming Benedictine

Home > Vocations > Becoming Benedictine

We offer many ways of becoming part of our monastic lives and ministries. Our Sisters came to Duluth from all over the United States, drawn to the Benedictine life of shared prayer, work, and study. Our Oblates participate in a special way in our spirituality while living outside the Monastery. We work side by side with volunteers and live-in associates, while our donors help underwrite our ministries.

What ties us all together is our love of Christ whom we find in the faces of all people. We see in the teachings of Christ and in their embodiment in the Rule of St. Benedict a way of living that is peaceful, moderate, welcoming, generous, and open to the movement of the Holy Spirit. We work for peace and justice, treat each person with respect, and value work and a balanced life. We believe that this way, lived well, will bring a divine order to our life, make our relationships more humane and more fully human, and help bring about the kingdom of God on earth.

“And let them first pray together, that so they may associate in peace.”
–St. Benedict of Nursia, The Rule of Saint Benedict
