Health Care
St. Benedict charges us to take care of the sick as though they were Christ, saying that this work "must rank above and before all else." The establishment of our Community in Duluth responded to St. Benedict's mandate to care for the sick and has been one of our primary missions ever since. This ministry has expanded over the years to include the sponsorship of many health care facilities in eight states.
Today St. Mary's/Duluth Clinic Health System provides primary care to families in 24 clinics and at St. Mary's, the largest hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, with 286 hospital beds and 43 bassinets. It is an acute care tertiary referral center.
