Happy the One

In Psalm One we read that the happy person is one who delights in God’s law and meditates on it day and night. (That’s some challenge!) That person is like a tree planted near running water that yields its fruit in due season and whose leaves never fade.

Trees towering to the heavens and deeply rooted in the earth speak to me of life, prayer, stability, and fruitfulness. They remind me of what I am called to be in my life as a Benedictine Monastic.

“Listen carefully, my child, to your master's precepts, and incline the ear of your heart. Receive willingly and carry out effectively your loving father's advice, that by the labor of obedience you may return to Him from whom you had departed by the sloth of disobedience.”
