While enjoying the serenity and beauty of one of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes, I thought of Jesus telling his about to be first disciples (Luke 5:4) to launch out into the deep. I wondered how they felt. Here was a carpenter telling them how to fish, and they had been fishing all night without catching anything! I can relate to their doubt and anger. Yet, in faith, they act and are blessed with a great catch of fish.
Jesus tells us too to launch out into the deep—the unknown treasures of his love and plan for our lives. At Mass today, the priest talked about God wooing and calling us to go deeper and to be transformed in Christ. We are not only called friends, but beloved. I’m reflecting on what keeps me on the shore, the dock, and the shallows. God of transformation, give me the courage to unloose all that separates me from launching deeper into the Mystery of your great love.

So well put Sr Jeanne. What is it that keeps us on shore or dabbling in the shallows? I need to hear Christ’s invitation and encouragement to “Go Deeper” everyday. Peace be with you.
